"For Squish Fold Twist at Barrington Center for the Arts, ceramic artists from around the Boston Area have come together to showcase work born out of a playful artistic practice. Clay is soft, organic, and pliable, uniquely encouraging whimsical results. From extruded structures to thrown vessels to mixed-media organisms, the objects in this exhibit explore the wild and the wonderful while reveling in the process of their own making."
Squish Fold Twist is an open-call exhibit of ceramic sculpture that I curated at the Barrington Center for the fall of 2021. For my first curated exhibit, I worked with Bruce Herman, the gallery director, to put out an open call to the community through various online platforms and news outlets. After receiving thirty submissions, I selected eight artists and two of my own pieces to be displayed in the exhibit. I also designed the floorpan, selected paint colors, arranged the final gallery, and designed and coordinated advertisements across social media platforms.
Squish Fold Twist features work by Elizabeth Craig-McCormack, Chris Frost, David Ingenthron, Linda Leslie Brown, David McCoy, Julie Peck, Ellen Schön, Keri Straka, and myself. Images of their artwork belong to them.
Installation photographs by Stephen Dagley.
